Description
MusicWorks teaches life skills to underserved elementary students through music. In the 2019-2020 fiscal year, 81 students attending three schools in the Asheville City Schools district spent three hours after each school day for five days a week, for 125 days before the COVID-19 pandemic closed the schools. To make MusicWorks accessible to all students regardless of finances, tuition is subsidized for those who are on free or reduced lunch programs, with monthly tuition as low as $10 a month for qualifying students.

Program areas at MusicWorks

In the 2019-2020 fiscal year MusicWorks served 81 students attending three schools in the Asheville City Schools district. Students spent 3 hours after each school day for 5 days a week, for 125 days before the COVID-19 pandemic closed the schools for the remainder of the school year. This amounted to approximately 375 hours of instruction and supervision. Approximately half, 188 hours, was devoted to music instruction. Expert academic enrichment and homework help was provided for about 94 hours during the year. In order to make MusicWorks accessible to the target population of students on free and reduced lunch program, MusicWorks subsidized tuition, providing free tuition for 37% of the students and reduced tuition for 26% of the students.
