Program areas at NAMI Illinois
Supports. The Nami support group model is designed to furnish the fundamental structures and group processes which will enable facilitators to run meeting which are both empathetic and upbeat. Nami runs a connection recovery program which is a peer-based mutual support group program for individuals facing the challenges of recovering from any serious mental illness.
Educates. Nami provides training and educational materials for families, persons with mental illness, and professionals. Nami offers an annual statewide educational conference, as well as family-to-family education, basics education, peer-to-peer mentoring, in our own voice presentations, ending the silence presentations, and provider education.
Advocates. Nami Illinois directly publishes a monthly newsletter, social media, and other content to bring the needs of persons with mental illness and their families to the attention of legislators, service providers, medical staff, and the general public. Nami protects the rights of person living with mental illness and presses for added community support services.
