The program significantly improves the coping and problem-solving abilities of the people closest to an individual living with a mental health condition. Classes are taught by NAMI-trained family members who have been there, and includes presentations, discussion, interactive exercises and review of resources available in local area. Three classes were taught, 70 family members benefited and were introduced to the support programs that we provide. A 2 hour Family and Friends seminar on mental health was presented to 45 family members.
NAMI Mental Health Ending the Silence (ETS) program helps high school students and staff members learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental illness. Audience members can ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood mental health topic and helps to grow the movement to end stigma. Over 2000 students participated from 12 schools.
