Construction of the 8-mile Calistoga to St Helena VINE TRAIL segment, managed by the Napa Valley Transportation Authority (NVTA), was in full swing this year. There were shovels in the ground in Calistoga on July 5th and the construction crew continued throughout the year south to Dunaweal Lane and CA 29 to the north end of St Helena. This segment was projected to open in fall 2023, but weather and PG&E project delays have pushed the opening to 2024.The City of Vallejo went out for bid on the contract to construct the 5.5-mile segment of VINE TRAIL connecting the Vallejo Ferry to the existing VINE TRAIL in American Canyon. This project was designed and funded in conjunction with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Bay Trail project and is projected to complete in 2023.Congressman Mike Thompson secured a $4 million grant to the Napa Valley Vine Trail project for pre-engineering work to close the VINE TRAIL gap between Yountville and St Helena. The route will improve traffic flow, increase safety, and provide greater connectivity between American Canyon and the Napa Valley providing a safe and accessible route for cyclists and pedestrians.A preliminary route design along the Napa County Sanitation District property in unincorporated Napa County between Napa and American Canyon was approved by their Board of Directors. The Boisset Collection proudly announced their sponsorship of the Napa Valley Vine Trail trailhead shelter near their Calistoga Depot at the north end of the new 8-mile segment of VINE TRAIL scheduled for completion in 2024. The trailhead shelter will include a water fountain, bike racks, a bike repair station and seating features. The Fortinet Championship, a four-day PGA Tour golf event, chose the Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition as one of their local beneficiaries. The Coalition recruited more than 20 wineries to pour their wines in support at the VINE TRAIL inspired tasting experience on the tournament grounds. The Vintner Collection fundraising campaign, a 10-bottle collection of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from ten prestigious wineries, continues to grow with two vintages released this year. The 10th and final vintage (Silver Oak) will be released in 2024 completing the Collection.Local Pacific Union College students volunteered to install donor commemorative footprints and clean up the VINE TRAIL and Oak Knoll South trailhead shelter. A total of 43 footprints were installed and over 300 cigarette butts were removed.
