Program areas at Nassau Reading Council
Professional development program offered to all members and educators. It is hoped that the knowledge gained will improve the delivery of instruction for all students. Educators are able to receive ctle hours of education that new york state department of education requires of all teachers.
Young authors program - encourages the students in grades kindergarten through grade 1w2w from all schools on long island to write memoirs. The students who participate in this program receive a certificate. Those whose writing for each grade receive the top grading are invited to a celebration with their parents and teachers.
Books for babies - members volunteer to work with teenage mothers to teach them literacy skills that will help them with their children. The mothers are encouraged to complete their high school education.
The Nassau Reading Council is a professional organization whose members are dedicated to improving the quality of Reading and writing instruction at all levels of education. The Nassau Reading Council acts as a clearinghouse for information related to Reading and writing and dissonates knowledge helpful in the solution of literacy problems. The Nassau Reading Council sponsors meetings and workshops about literacy. Membership is open to all who are interested in the goals of literacy. Members of Nassau Reading Council are automatically member new york state Reading association nysra. The Nassau Reading Council is an approved sponsor of continuing teacher and leadership educationctle pursuant to section 80-6 of the regulations ofthe commissioner ofeducation new york state education department nysed.
