Program areas at National Association of Hispanic Nurses
Outreach, advocacy, & education: lead, promote and advocate for educational advancement of Hispanic Nurses including the development of more Hispanic scholars and educators; provide more leadership opportunities for Hispanic Nurses; explore and develop partnerships to help promote the educational advancement of Hispanic Nurses and improve health outcomes for latinos in the united states. Unite the latino healthcare community to advocate for the health care issues affecting the Hispanic population through the Hispanic health policy summit. Engage in fundraising and build strategic alliances with funders that result in nursing education of hispanics and career and leadership development; seek partners to assist with outreach to the Hispanic community.
Membership services - distributed research findings and Hispanic health issues through the website, newsletters, e-blasts and a quarterly peer-reviewed journal; provided support and guidance for the incubation phase of new chapters; expanded on prior research findings and resource development to teach leaders how to carry the message of nursing as a strong career choice into high schools so that a greater number of young latinos are exposed to the facts and rose models related to nursing.
Annual conference - provided a forum for Nurses to analyse and evaluate the health care needs of the Hispanic community through presentations, focus groups, peer interactions, mentoring, and task-driven committees and meetings. Latino leadership institute: provided a specially designed educational event for chapter leaders, board members and other Hispanic Nurses who share a desire to strengthen leadership ability as it relates to nursing and positively impacting latinos at the community level.
Scholarship program - identified the barriers to recruiting and retraining Hispanic students in nursing education programs and worked towards overcoming those barriers and solicited, screened, and provided scholarships to Hispanic nurse applicants from undergrad to doctorate level.
