The National Fencing Foundation's Capitol Clash is the largest annual youth fencing tournament in the U.S., comprised of events for athletes ages 8-16. Competition is divided by age, category, and weapon, with athletes testing their skills in all three Olympic weapons: foil, epee, and saber. Youth compete for medals and championships. The event is part of the Super Yourth Circuit (SYC) series, sanctioned by the US Fencing Association (USFA)aka USA Fencing under the authority of the US Olympic Committee (USOC). Over 1800 youth fencers, from all corners of the United States and Canada, compete at the Capitol Clash tournament in National Harbor, Maryland.
The Foundation accepts and reviews applications for individual scholarshios from individual youth fencers from all over the nation, based upon need, merit, or a combination of both factors, and, as a Board, reviews the recommendations of its officers for each individual. Awards range from $1,000 to $8,000, and are used exclusively to reimburse tournament events and registration fees and travel related expenses incurred for national and international competition. The Board Secretary approves reimbursement only after receiving original documentation of each expense for which reimbursement is requested.
