Nimj's mission is the study improvement,and public and professional understanding of Military law and Military Justice systems,to include the us uniform code of Military Justice and the international law of armed conflict. Its activities include: submission of amicus briefs in pending cases that raise significant issues; convening and conducting conferences and workshops on current Military law and Justice issues both domestic and i
International; availability to media for expert comment and analysis of such issues; efforts by foia requests and otherwise to improve transparency accountability and fairness of the system including arranging for observers at ongoing proceedings; conferring of awards for excellent in legal scholarship on Military law and Justice issues; providing expert nonpartisan research and analysis on major Military issues to the public media and organizations and governmental entities;and production and publication of a newsletter reporting current developments in the field.
Nimj does not represent individual parties in litigation. All the substantive activities and administration of nimj are performed on a pro bono basis by leading academics and practicing attorneys who provide many hundreds of uncompensated legal expertise.
