Direct Services to Patients and their Families and Public Education The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin NKFW provides live and virtual learning opportunities for individuals with kidney disease, transplant recipients, living organ donors, dialysis patients and caregiversconnection to local resources and support groups through the patient telepone helpline, as well as social media, email, and direct mail communications and medical identification jewelry to ensure proper patient care and safety in emergency situations.
Provide Community Services The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin provides a robust kidney screening program for early detection of kidney disease, with the goal of reducing the frequency and severity of kidney disease in Wisconsin. Screening locations are targeted to traditionally under-served areas of the state, particularly in the major metro areas of Milwaukee and Madison. Between 6 and 12 free community screenings are held each year, benefiting hundreds of individuals.
Provide Professional Education The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin offers professional education to renal professionals across the state during our annual conference each Fall. This program is ACCME accredited and covers topics in dialysis, transplantation, renal nutrition, renal social work, and nephrology nursing. Additionally, NKFW hosts the Wisconsin Chapter of the Council on Renal Nutrition CRN-WI and Council of Nephhrology Social Workers CNSW-WI, providing continuing education and a networking forum for both groups a few times a year.
