Program areas at National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association
Government affairs: nlbmda's primary mission is to represent the industry before congress, federal regulators and code bodies on issues impacting the Lumber and Building Material industry. Staff and members advocate on behalf of Dealers for business-friendly regulations that are fair, simple and effective through face-to-face meetings and communications with legislators, regulators and code officials. Nlbmda's government affairs committees recommend policies on key public policy issues to the board of directors, which sets policy for nlbmda.
Legislative conference: nlbmda's legislative conference provides an opportunity for members to learn about key public policy issues impacting the industry, and to participate in visits with their elected officials on capitol hill to lobby them on behalf of the industry.
Annual meeting/industry summit: nlbmda's bylaws provide that members shall elect the officers of nlbmda at an annual meeting. During the annual meeting, the members are also informed of the status of nlbmda, including financial and legislative reports. In 2008, the annual meeting was partnered into another meeting held by an industry publication, hbsdealer. The two groups are responsible for the exhibits and educational content at the meeting. Expenses and revenue for the meeting are split between nlbmda and hbsdealer in accordance with the contract that outlines the relationship and shared responsibilities. The annual meeting also serves as an important networking venue for Dealers and their suppliers.
