Program areas at NOYS
The National Youth Transportation Equity Fellowship, designed for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) youth (18-25) provided a 10-month immerse educational and community engagement experience addressing hyperlocal transportation inequities related to pedestrian deaths. The program kicked off in Memphis, TN with a national convening, garnering over 100 attendees to address youth power for transportation equity; followed by recruiting and training 10 youth leaders across the country through cohort sessions, technical assistance, and mentorship.
Your Voice, Your Action Infrastructure Safety Contest: The YVYA The contest aimed to give young people a voice by hearing their opinions on what infrastructure improvements are needed in their neighborhoods to support safe walking, cycling, and equitable use of street spaces for all road users. The contest recruited over 120 youth from across the country to access their local community pedestrian environment, attend trainings on computer-aided design provided by Bentley Systems, and create recommended changes to their pedestrian environment.
Annual Seat Belts Save Challenged mobilized over 100,000 young people and community members across 35 schools to engage in youth-centered trainings and workshops to be equipped to raise awareness on the importance of buckling up every ride, every time. Participants were trained in digital storytelling, advocacy 101, and equity-centered community design and engagement to address seat belt safety and other related human behavioral traffics safety measures.
All Other: Various other initiatives to create a direct impact in the communities we serve including but not limited to paid professional development opportunities for youth in the transportation equity sector and thought leadership via speaking engagements and mission based consulting opportunities.
