Program areas at Native America Humane Society
Animals play a central role in Native American cultures. Our relationships with animals, whether wild or domestic, is sacred to us. But challenging circumstances have led many tribal communities away from this relationship. Combined with the remoteness of many Native American communities, this means many dogs, cats, and horses are suffering. There is currently a critical gap in thea vailability of animal care services for hundreds of tribal nations across the lower 48 states as well as in Alaskan Native villages. NAHS answers this need by sharing expertise in animal care and providing animal care resources to empower Native American communities to humanely manage and care for their animal populations. NAHS builds connections to animal care service providers, NGOs, foundations, and other agencies to provide animal care, population management, and supports community activities for people and their pets on tribal lands and in urban areas.
