Program areas at Natpe Educational Foundation
Living the dream event: Natpe, the naacp and the nhfa partnered to present a special event to spotlight diversity awareness in entertainment. 500 young entertainment / media focused general consumers with a highly curated experience to educate and inspire the next generation of content creators and give them access to leaders in the field.
Thirty-six interns attended Natpe. Twenty-two had housing provided by Natpe. Fourteen were recruited from the local area schools and received a travel allowance. All were fed breakfast and lunch. Besides the conference, the interns participated in team-building pre-conference sessions and we held three resume and job advice sessions and provided one-on-one advice to most of the interns.
Natpe scholarship program:provided 26 selected faculty members with complete access to the sessions and activities of the annual Natpe market & conference. In addition to all of the regular conference activities, participants attended special Educational seminars throughout the three-day event. Additional local faculty of 12 were fed and attended these special seminars.
Career seminars:there was one career seminar held in fiscal year 2018. In fall 2018, 72 students and 6 faculty participated in san diego, ca. The goal of the seminars is to inform the students of the many areas available in the communications fields and to prepare and guide them through the process of applying for a job. Panelists discussed their careers and what it took to get the jobs they have, not as industry professionals but as role models for this future generation of television and content leaders. The panelists we assembled are themselves a diverse group with backgrounds that include a broad range of jobs, experience levels and cultures. $4,000 in student scholarships were awarded at the event via iheart media.
Faculty development grant program:provided college and university media educators the chance to gain first-hand experience in a professional media environment. 5 professors were awarded a stipend and placed from two to three weeks in a tv station to observe and participate in day-to-day operations. The program is designed to increase teaching effectiveness through professional experience. Grantees also received passes to the Natpe 2019 market and conference, along with a $500 air/hotel stipend and meals for the event. All 5 of these professors attended the scholarship program listed above.
