Program areas at Nature Stewards Program

Environmental Stewardship Outreach program places knowledgeable people at community events to empower individuals to become environmental stewards and inspires everyone to protect and restore the native habitat. Presentations, informational handouts, examples of native plants and answers to environmental concerns are addressed. Protecting and improving the air, water and land for future generations through educating the community, including sustainable gardening practice is what this program delivers.
Myers Way Experiential Learning Program. This environmental program removes invasive weed species and restores habitats with native plants near Myers Way Wetlands to protect the health of Puget Sound and its residents. The program mitigates past pollution runoff by supporting community based efforts to protect and improve the water quality of Puget Sound and its watersheds. The program offers volunteer participants ability to develop knowledge from a real-life hands-on environmental project broadening employment skills and expanding opportunities for a future career or job in an environmental profession.
New Start Community Garden is over an acre of leased land with a community pea patch, fruit orchard, berry patch, pollinator garden, herb garden, tea garden, edible flower garden and space for local high school students and community members to get their hands on experience growing, drying and preserving food crops, building garden beds and composting. Aiming to provide local produce, reducing the carbon footprint of transporting food, growing community cohesiveness while promoting sustainable practices. The excess food grown is donated to the community. This is a fiscally sponsored grant specific project.
