Provide technical assistance to educate the public on the benefits of smoke-free recreational areas to improve the health of visitors and denormalize smoking around children, protect the environment from preventable fires, and lower park maintenance costs for communities by decreasing tobacco waste. Provide presentations and training to interested parties throughout New Jersey. Publish a research paper on smoke-free parks, and maintain a database on nj local and county tobacco control ordinances. Provide interviews resulting in earned media in news articles and radio broadcast.
Track emerging trends and issues on tobacco and provide technical assistance and educational presentations to promote 100% smoke-free environments at casinos, college campuses, outdoor recreation areas, multi-unit housing, and cars when children are present; to educate on the health risks with third-hand smoke, hookah smoking and electronic cigarettes; and to reduce smoking and smokeless tobacco use by teens, college students, and the general population.
Educate the public on the benefits of smoke-free, multi-unit housing initiatives. Public housing authorities, private affordable housing management companies, private market rate landlords, tenants and condominium owners are provided with smoke-free housing toolkits and customized presentations to encourage smoke-free housing, especially to protect children, senior citizens, and persons with chronic diseases. Provide guidance to residents who suffer from second-hand smoke exposure.
