Njsligf was created by njsa 17:22-6.70 et seq. This statute establishes a mechanism for the payment of "covered claims" of insolvent Surplus Lines Insurance companies. It has been funded through a one-time assessment of eligible Surplus Lines insurers through july 21, 2011, as well as a surcharge on policy premiums, which has not been activated since august 1993.
