New Mexico Immigrant Law Center's mission is to provide legal services to low-income immigrants and their families, educate New Mexican immigrant families, service providers, and the general public on legal issues unique to non-citizens, and increase support for New Mexican immigrants. The organization focuses on providing access to justice for low-income immigrants through collaborative legal services and served individuals from 27 counties in New Mexico this past year by providing direct representation, advice, brief services.

Program areas at New Mexico Immigrant Law Center

Nmilc focused on providing access to justice for low-income immigrants through collaborative and holistic legal services. This past year we served individuals from 28 counties (out of a total of 33) in New Mexico and provided direct representation, advice, brief services, navigation, legal information and referral to 5,757 individuals. To expand access in remote areas we have developed a remote legal service infrastructure to provide brief services support for individuals applying for citizenship, green card renewal, and work permit renewal. We have also developed legal workshop models to provide greater access to legal orientation and brief services to asylum seekers facing removal state wide. To accomplish this work, 47 attorneys and doj accredited representatives provided 2,094 hours of volunteer legal services and an additional 167 non-attorney volunteers provided pro bono medical assessments, court certified intepretation services, and program administration support. We also educated and trained community members on immigration Law and policy and provided mentorship and supervision to public interest pre-law and post-graduate fellows.
