Program areas at New Plaza Cinema

Establishing a permanent home and doubling programming revenue: for the first time, in 2023, New Plaza Cinema secured a steady theater location at macaulay college, marking a historic year where we operated consistently throughout the full year. This milestone has provided us with a stable foundation to enhance our offerings and expand our reach. The permanent venue, with a 72-seat capacity and screenings held two to three days a week, has contributed to doubling our programming revenue. Patrons can now rely on regular programming in a dedicated space, significantly increasing attendance and deepening engagement with our curated cultural film experiences. This accomplishment solidifies New Plaza Cinema as a reliable cultural destination in upper manhattan, where art Cinema thrives.
Building a dedicated volunteer community: New Plaza Cinema has successfully cultivated a passionate and loyal community of 250 volunteers who are fully aligned with our mission of preserving and promoting quality cinematography. These dedicated individuals work tirelessly to help us grow, attract New audiences, and enhance the cultural landscape of upper manhattan. Their collective efforts have been instrumental in hosting events, supporting our operations, and fostering an environment where Cinema as an art form continues to thrive. The strength of this volunteer community not only demonstrates the power of collective effort but also ensures that New Plaza Cinema remains a sustainable and vibrant force in the arts.
Hosting record-breaking events and reaching a wider audience: in a historic achievement, New Plaza Cinema hosted over 50 events this year, featuring revered directors, speakers, and renowned industry figures who shared their insights with our community. This led to an impressive 16,500 tickets sold, reflecting growing public interest in our programming. For the first time, we surpassed 100,000 in contributions, highlighting increased support for our mission. In addition to in-person events, we held 43 virtual events, a practice born from the pandemic, allowing us to broaden our reach and bring the magic of Cinema into homes everywhere. This achievement underscores our expanding influence and dedication to delivering thought-provoking film experiences.
