New Samaritan Corporation (nsc) advocates for human dignity primarily by encouraging, providing and developing affordable, accessible, high-quality housing and healthcare facilities. Nsc's values include (1) empowerment of individuals and communities, (2) shared and transparent decision making, (3) imaginative leadership and organizational development, and (4) ehitical business practices. Since its founding in 1970, nsc has primarily developed Connecticut housing communities for elderly and disabled individuals, as well as low and moderate income families. Nsc has also developed housing in rhode island and Massachusetts. As the largest non-profit provider of elderly housing in ct, nsc provides thousands of housing units. Nsc's most recently developed community is located in old saybrook, ct and provides 15 units of affordable elderly housing to the community. Future development projects are considered based on a variety of factors, including building communities "where dignity and compassion come home." Nsc recently broke ground on a 22-unit elderly housing community in hartford, ct financed by hud, state of Connecticut and city of hartford. Nsc also owns and operates a 98-bed skilled nursing facility, mansfield center for nursing and rehabilitation (mcnr) in storrs, ct. mcnr is part of a larger campus of senior services that are sponsored by New Samaritan or owned and managed by the town of mansfield. Consequently many of mcnr's residents, patients and visitors are neighbors.
