Program areas at New York City Mission Society
The Mission of power academy afterschool and full-day summer camp program is to narrow the educational achievement gap. During the academic year, Mission Society provided literacy and engaging stem learning experiences to 756 elementary students in power academy programming. 82% of surveyed participants agree that they had a positive experience with power academy. 81% of surveyed students agree that they have strategies to use if they get stuck on a word or a math problem.
Learning to work increases high school graduation rates by providing students with academic support, college preparation and guidance, career training, and paid internships. At the high school level, Mission provided career and workforce development support to 1,633 high school students in our learning to work program. Across programs sites, 261 high school students were placed in internship and 367 students graduated. Additionally, 92% of surveyed students agree that they have developed career goals for life after high school.
