Program areas at New York State Association for Infant Mental Health

Part of NYS-AIMHs mission is to ensure that the New York State (NYS) multidisciplinary ear childhood workforce has the education, training and on-the-job experiences to provide what children and families need. This is unique work it is different than working with older children and we are striving to help everyone who works with, or on behalf of young children, their families and caregivers has the education, training and on-the-job experience to demonstrate competence in this specialty.NYS-AIMH is a member of The Alliance for the Advancement of Infant Mental Health, one of 33 states (and several countries) using a set of standardized competencies that lead to The Endorsement for Culturally Sensitive, Relationship-Focused Practice Promoting Infant Menta Health (NYS-AIMH Endorsement) The NYS-AIMH Endorsement, which opened in April 2017 provides a tool to map and measure competence and is reciprocal between all members associations. At the end of 2022 there are 95 endorsed professionals and 149 individuals in process across New York State.Building from the standardized competencies, training is offered to increase the knowledge and skill of the workforce. NYS-AIMH has worked closely with The NYS Office of Mental Health, NYS Council on Children and Families, NYS Office of Children and Families. We have collaborated and supported the professional development of more than 100 agencies and organizations NYS-AIMH has a robust and growing membership. Efforts are made to stay connected to members with the newsletters, job postings, and announcements of our workshop offerings as well as those offered by our organizational members. Members are also welcomed to join committee work. Social Media is used to share Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health related information. Outreach & Networking efforts continue in earnest with attention to connections with state and regional entities to integrate our vision with existing work.
