The educational and recreational opportunities at the nsc provide a broad range of physical, recreational and social options. In each area there are a wide array of options to meet the needs of every level of ability. Fitness programming ranges from armchair exercise offered free of charge to access to the therapeutic pool fitness Center and classes developed to extend independent living in the community. The newest program, meeting of minds, provides a guided group experience for those experiencing early stages of memory loss. Many educational programs are made possibly by the generous spirit of our many volunteers who have a wealth of experience and knowledge to share with others.
The social service and transportation programs at the nsc provide a safety net free of charge for many individuals throughout the community. The in house social services director provides options counseling, case management, coordinates presentations, screenings, wellness fair, housing fair and access to individual assistance with insurance, legal issues, and financial coaching. The transportation program provides access to all that the Center has to offer and helps to prevent isolation that is so common for seniors throughout many communities.
Food services at the nsc serves both the homebound through our meals on wheels program and those who are able to come to the Center for our midday meal. The mow program allows many individuals to age in place who might otherwise need to turn to a more institutional setting because of the inability to shop and or cook on their own. More than 60,973 homebound meals are delivered by volunteers who provide a daily check-in for our clients and help to connect them to additional services as needed. 7,975 meals are served at the nsc providing a wonderful opportunity for an affordable, freshly prepared meal as well as the opportunity to socialize with peers.
