Program areas at Newport Pride
Newport Pride hosts events such as Newport's annual Pride festival, which is a celebration of the diversity and intersectionality of the lgbtq community in rhode island. These events provide locals with an opportunity to engage with political and community-based groups.
As part of the community, Newport Pride offers educational programs for lgbtq+ youth as well as straight allies. Furthermore, we engage with other nonprofits such as connexion latina to further spread our network and determine how we can better impact the community. We have also joined with organizations such as hope recovery center and the dr. martin luther king jr. community center to provide a more convenient location for a weekly adult lgbtq+ support group and a monthly youth lgbtq+ support group, respectively.
The Pride center acts as a physical safe space in which locals are provided with resource pamphlets regarding advice for coming out or transitioning at any stage of life. Additionally, visitors are able to engage in the rich history of the lgbtq community in america through the photographs and books available to the public. Additionally, the center acts as a meeting place for newporters to congregate and network with fellow members of the lgbtq.
