See schedule oblue collar prep: blue collar prep (bcp) is a seven-week pre-apprenticeship training program for underemployed and unemployed Women, transgender, and non-binary individuals. The training program, an intense program for a cohort of 25 students, is currently hosted in a hybrid virtual and in person training environment and held five days a week. New classes start every four to six weeks and are offered at no cost to all students. Students are provided access to zoom learning classrooms and metrocards for travel to and from in- person training. The comprehensive, innovative curriculum, developed in collaboration with union apprenticeship directors and employers, includes introduction classes in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing; lifting and carrying; trades math; and health and safety training. New built upon the success of bcp and introduced an additional core day program, green collar prep (gcp), which incorporates sustainability practices into the curriculum.

New's graduation certificate is recognized by the new york city building and construction trades apprenticeship programs and new york state department of labor for direct entry into union apprenticeships. After completing the program, new works with graduates to place them with employers in construction related work.new actively provides career placement services to graduates through one-on-one Employment consulation, workshops, and interview preparation. New staff members work with each student throughout training to help the student select and pursue career choices. Employment staff members, working alongside program coordinators, participate in mid-term evaluations and final exit evaluations to ensure each student understands their career options, evaluates their skills and ability to succeed, and selects the career where they are best suited and will excel.in addition to core programming, new also delivers advanced training designed to provide graduates with credentials and/or skills for an in-depth comprehension of industry trends that will make them more competitive candidates and accelerate their career advancement. Advanced training offerings include those focused on preparation for local 3 electricians con edison utility workers, and sheet metal worker careers.new also facilitates the process and makes introductions for graduates to earn additional certifications on their own. This can be from directing a graduate on how to get a driver's license to fireguard certification or obtaining a cdl. New has also, in some cases, covered the cost of fees associated with these additional certifications.in addition to long-term career planning, immediately after completing training new works with graduates to secure placements in interim jobs, as appropriate, as they prepare for a long-term career opportunity. New focuses on jobs that are related to new's core industries and has expanded outreach to employers in related industries that hire directly and improve graduates candidacy for future trade opportunities.
