Program areas at Norman Borlaug Foundation

Provide support to the Conflict and Development Foundation and the Center on Conflict and Development at Texas A&M University to conduct research and scholarship on the relationships between rural and agricultural development and conflict in developing countries. This support may include providing support for graduate student research, field research and related travel, collaborations with foreign universities and research entities, research supplies/materials, and publications and interpretive exhibits at Texas A&M.
Provide grant to AgriCorps for supporting agriculture volunteers in Rwanda as per their mission. AgriCorps volunteers are recent college graduates with significant agricultural leadership experience. AgriCorps partners with the Ghana 4-H organization to place volunteers at secondary schools to promote agricultural education. AgriCorps is modeled on Peace Corps.
Assemble case studies of farmers in different cropping system/agroecological zones of Ghana who have adopted and maintained no-till practices without benefit of outside support, and to document the biophysical (soil properties and crop yield) and socioeconomic (income and other quality of life indicators) benefits they've achieved through no-till systems. This will be done with a view towards gaining insight and offering advice to the Ghanaian government on policies that will further encourage farmer adoption of no-till practices.

Research initiative to understand food security/hunger profile of farmers in three Sub Saharan African countries (Ghana, Senegal and Liberia). Understand the different farming techniques, farm income levels, food security and socioeconomic indicators that characterize diverse sets of farmers. The study would also identify the key reasons of food insecurity and lower income levels of the Sub-Saharan African famers.
