Program areas at North American Meat Institute
Regulatory and scientific affairs: the regulatory and scientific affairs (rsa) group interacts with a variety of regulatory agencies, primarily federal, including several agencies in the u.s. department of agriculture, the environmental protection agency, the occupational safety and health administration, the food and drug administration, among others. Rsa provides technical assistance to member companies on regulatory issues related to Meat and poultry inspection, as well as compliance with environmental rules, worker safety regulations, among others. Rsa also helps manage nami's foundation for Meat and poultry research and education .
Public affairs & legislative affairs: the public affairs department handles communications with the media, policy makers, and the public on behalf of nami's member companies. The legislative affairs department acts as the Meat and poultry industry's representative on capitol hill and manages nami's political action committee.
Member services and event sponsorship: this department is responsible for overseeing logistics, operations, educational content, and marketing aspects of nami and nami conventions and educational programs. These events include theinternational production and processing exposition and the annual Meat conference. This department also oversees the educational content and marketing of a series of educational conferences. This department also is responsible for marketing, recruitment, retention, and customer service of members and interacts with the supplier, foodservice, membership, and intellectual property committees.
Protein pact: protein pact unites the entire animal protein value chain to create the first-ever aggregated industry data collection platform and a long-term, comprehensive communications plan to measure continuous improvement of the animal protein industry's progress for the people, animals, and climate of tomorrow. Through protein pact, nami is measuring the progress of North American meatpacking and processing facilities and engaging and partnering with international food and agriculture organizations to show animal protein's critical role in nutrient-dense, sustainable diets and global food security. The protein pact is gathering momentum throughout the u.s. and around the globe. The Meat Institute and its members have taken part in numerous domestic and international events to emphasize animal agriculture's importance for healthy people, healthy animals, and a healthy climate.
