Program areas at North American Sustainable Refrigeration Council
The nonprofit has over 150 member organizations (corporate donors) contributing to its mission. Members are encouraged to participate in organization activities designed to address specific barriers preventing the widespread adoption of natural refrigerants. Most of the organization's activities fall under three core areas: workforce development, funding and incentives, and education. During 2023, nasrc organized two free natural refrigerant training summits that each offered 2.5 days of free training for Refrigeration technicians on the latest natural refrigerant technologies. The two events, hosted in irwindale, ca and st. louis, mo, collectively trained more than 485 Refrigeration technicians. The organization also launched a new workforce development program with a goal to improve recruitment, training, and retention for Refrigeration technicians. Nasrc published a report summarizing data-driven solutions that the program will drive forward, secured a small grant to provide training for hvacr school faculty, facilitated networking opportunities between industry employers and hvacr students, and coordinated on-site training opportunities for technicians at food retail sites. Finally, nasrc secured a role as the third-party administrator of the California air resources board (carb) f-gas reduction incentive program (frip), a which will provide incentives to support the replacement of high global warming (gwp) potential hfc equipment with ultra-low gwp Refrigeration equipment across California.
