Program areas at North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Foundation
The ncafp and ncafp Foundation cooperated to host its annual winter Family Physicians weekend meeting, where medical students had opportunities to meet with residency programs and learn about Family medicine as a specialty while also being exposed to educational and hands-on opportunities. The Foundation provided medical students travel assistance to attend this conference. The ncafp Foundation granted multiple scholarships to North Carolina medical students considering careers as Family Physicians. The Foundation organized two summer programs to provide medical students two work week clinical experiences across the state. The summer program paid stipends to students and preceptors as well as covered direct program costs.
The Foundation, with funds provided by united healthcare, established the Family medicine practice telemedicine and medical scribe pilot program to support small medical practices which are continuing to implement telehealth. The program will provide funding of $100,000 to three participating practices. The program funds are to be used to hire new scribes or medical assistants for a year-long project to better integrate in-person and virtual visits into the practices' clinical workflows. By increasing the efficiency of these visits, the participating practices can increase access to medical care in our state's rural and underserved areas.
