Program areas at North Carolina Equal Access to Justice Foundation
The North Carolina Pro Bono Resource Center is the statewide pro bono clearinghouse that assists lawyers in fulfilling their professional responsibility to provide pro bono legal services. The Center focuses on projects to address unmet legal needs, creating clinics and other models of service delivery to provide needed legal services such as the Driver's License Restoration Project, housing stability, disaster relief, expunctions, and FEMA appeal assistance. The Driver's License Restoration Project served 1,789 clients in 2023.
The NC Equal Access to Justice Commission's goal is to overcome barriers to justice and empower North Carolinians to meet their leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving. Commission activities include policy work, data collection, program evaluation, stakeholder convenings, legislative support, etc.
The Wake County Legal Support Center opened in January 2023 to increase access to justice for residents of Wake County by serving as a resource hub for self-represented litigants in civil legal matters. The Center served over 5,600 visitors in its first year.
The NC Equal Justice Alliance is a collaborative planning and coordination council of providers of legal aid and other supportive stakeholders in North Carolina. The Alliance was established to provide central coordination of a sustained comprehensive, integrated, statewide system to provide the most effective legal service to people in poverty in North Carolina.
