Invisible Histories Project | Queer History South (QHS) Acts As A Network of People Preserving, and Researching LGBTQ History in the Us South. To Support Each Other in This Work and Develop Best Practices in the Field, QHS Holds A Conference Every Two Years Focused on Improving Our Connections, Knowledge, and Skillsets. the Conference Is Ideal for Scholars, Historians, Archivists, Educators and Those Working To Preserve Southern LGBTQ History in Both Formal and Informal Ways. 2024 Will Be the Third QHS Conference Held Since 2019 (2019 Birmingham, Al; 2022 Dallas, Tx).the Disparities LGBTQ Face Both Regionally and Nationally Play A Critical Factor in the Under- and Misrepresentation of LGBTQ History Specifically in the South. QHS Seeks To Remedy This Deficit By Providing Those Interested (Academics, Professionals, and Community) in the Location, Preservation, and Research of Southern LGBTQ History With the Skills They Need To Pursue These Efforts and A Network of Likeminded People With Whom To Collaborate. | 2023-10 | $20,000 |
Charlotte Museum of History | In March of 2024, the Museum Will Unveil A New Exhibition To Tell the Story of the National Negro Opera Company and It's Founder Mary Cardwell Dawson. This Is the Story of Dancers, Singers, Musicians, Set Designers, Costume Designers, Painters, and the Entire Production Team. It Is the Story of Segregation, of Lack of Funding, But Also of Perseverance and Drive As A Black Violin Player Joined the White Pittsburg Orchestra To Accompany A Black Cast. It Is Also the Story of How A Woman From the Piedmont of North Carolina Carved Out A Space for Herself and A Talented Group of Performers in A World Where Separate Was Anything But Equal. This Exhibit Intends To Break Down Perceived Barriers Surrounding Opera As A Genre, To Create Dialogue Around Issues of Segregation and Access in the Civil Rights Era, and To Demonstrate the Continued Impact of Dawson and the Company on Not Only the Piedmont of North Carolina, But Also the Country As A Whole. | 2023-10 | $20,000 |
