Animal shelter and pet adoption center - in 2023, North Country Animal League (ncal) successfully adopted out 379 dogs and cats, working diligently to find loving homes for each Animal. This year brought significant leadership changes, strengthening our commitment to serve both animals and our community more effectively. Our shelter remained open and fully operational, ensuring continous adoption services.
Humane education and outreach - in 2023, ncal conducted eight weeks of summer camps, focusing on humane education. These programs insprie compassion, responsibility, and respect for animals among young people in our community. We provide financial assistance as needed to ensure accessibility for all families interested in our programs.
Adoption program - ncal's adoption program continues to rescue local stray and surrendered animals, as well as high-risk dogs from overcrowded shelters in the southern u.s. Through a trusted network of partners, we ensure these pets are evaluated, vetted, and adhere to strict transport protocols, providing them with a second chance at life in Vermont.
Ncal meals program and community support - through partnerships with local food banks and meals on wheels, our ncal meals program supplies pet food and resources to support owned pets within our community. By alleviating financial strain, we help families keep beloved pets in their homes, reducing the risk of shelter surrenders due to financial hardship.equine center - in 2023, ncal's equine center supported our humane education initiatives through a variety of equine-related programs. Our full boarding program transitioned to a cooperative model, accommodating privately owned horses while fostering community involvement. The equine center, home to 12 horses, continued to serve children and adults of all ages with horsemanship programs such as saddle club, group lessons, and after-school programs. This programming provided hands-on educational opportunities that fostered compassion, responsibility, and respect for animals, directly aligning with ncal's mission to promote humane education.
