North End Cultural Center

North End Cultural Center promotes artistic expression and achievement in Waterloo, Iowa. It offers a summer hip hop literacy program that teaches poetry writing and hip hop music production over a six week program from mid-June to late July. Kids acquire literacy skills, performance skills, and an overall increased self-confidence. Additionally, the center hosts the North End Arts and Music Fest every July in conjunction with a community parade, which celebrates artists and businesses in Waterloo's predominantly black neighborhood. The fest draws around 2,500 attendees annually.
