Program areas at North Kent Connect
Founded in 1973 by local pastors, North Kent Connect (nkc) is the comprehensive resource Center in northern Kent county. It provides the only services of its kind in the region offering: a healthy food pantry, the step2 program, utility and rent assistance, educational classes, meals on wheels, intensive case management, free tax preparation, and affordable clothing and household goods in its thrift store. Onsite partners are west Michigan works! (job skills), disability advocates (home modifications and public benefits counseling),as well as arbor circle and ywca virtual services (mental health, substance abuse, and domestic violence counseling). Nkc serves more than 4,000 people each year in a large geographic area (half of Kent county)which includes belmont, cedar springs, comstock park, gowen, grant, greenville, Kent city, Rockford, sand lake, and sparta.
As a nonprofit 501(c)(3), nkc is funded primarily by individuals, businesses, churches, civic groups, and foundations.a thrift store onsite provides quality, affordable clothing and household goods all donated by the Community and is open to anyone in the Community. All proceeds are put back into funding the mission of North Kent Connect.
