Program areas at North Memorial Foundation
Covid-19 emergency fund: in 2023, 14 team members completed train-the-trainer (ttt) through crisis prevention institute (cpi), a well-known global leader in de-escalation and crisis prevention training. We saw an exasperation of violence against care providers due to the pandemic. Nmh provided team members with the knowledge and skills they need to prevent workplace violence, de-escalate aggressive behaviors, and protect themselves and patients at work. These trainers then provided workshops (training) with hands-on skills and tactics to increase competency and confidence in de-escalation to team members across the entire nmh system. An estimated 3000 team members are expected to have completed this training by the end of 2024.
Medical transportation general fund: nearly 130 supervisors, managers and directors in our ambulance services team participated in field officer training provided by the national ems management association and became nationally certified. Leaders learned about the structure, tools, techniques, and concepts of ems-ftep as well as principles of adult learning, coaching, evaluation, giving feedback, and documenting trainee performance using ems-ftep tools (standardized evaluation guidelines, recruit training manual, and daily observation reports). Skills were then put to use throughout ambulance services which provided ground and air transports and care for more than 100,000 medical emergencies.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion: nmh has implemented several strategies that focus on providing culturally competent care and we continue to develop and implement additional strategies to support the growth of our care teams in learning to provide culturally competent health care. Additionally, we hosted a trauma symposium in 2023 titled "cultivating trauma-informed care through growth, healing, and knowledge," that was attended by 125 nmh team members, community members and staff from various community organizations. It laid the groundwork and built awareness about aces and trauma-informed care through presentations, community stories, and resilience and self-care tools. To increase the number of bipoc providers and increase access to care providers who represent and reflect our community members, nmh Foundation established an annual $5,000 bipoc mental health scholarship. The first scholarship was awarded in 2022.
The Foundation supports other programs and initiatives throughout the organization as identified by donors and Foundation leadership. These funds support a wide array of projects, from technology upgrades to new care programs, team-member education to facility enhancements.
