As the federally-designated regional economic Development district for jefferson and clallam counties, nodc develops a comprehensive economic Development strategy (ceds) every 5 years with annual updates in between and leads other regional planning efforts. 2022 accomplishments: coordinated the clallam county broadband committee, which assisted in securing more than $20 million in grant funding for broadband expansion. Led a regional natural disaster resilience planning project and produced a report with a proposed project list and project evaluation criteria.2. Food, farm & forest: a thriving working landscape is key to maintaining the natural beauty of the North Olympic Peninsula while also creating economic vitality. The nodc works with partners to develop projects that support food, farm and forest enterprises in the region.2022 accomplishments: provided intensive training and technical assistance to more than 20 farm and food businesses to remove barriers to growth and support job retention and creation. Matched farmers looking for land with land owners wanting to lease or sell agricultural land and assisted with succession planning and financing.3. Work with local governments, tribes and other stakeholders to plan for adaptation, mitigation & resilience in the face of climate change.2022 accomplishments: completed a 2-year regional climate change adaptation planning process. Produced climate change reports and strategies and added a climate change action toolkit to the nodc website. Funded technical assistance to three local governments and one tribe for producing their own climate change adaptation strategies.4. Work with local governments, tribes, public utility districts and subject matter experts on increasing energy reliability and resilience in the region.2022 accomplishments: hosted a 3-day conference on North Olympic Peninsula energy futures attended by more than 70 representatives from local government, tribes, public utilities, pacific northwest national laboratory, the university of Washington, and state, federal and private funding agencies.
