Program areas at The North Shore Land Alliance
Education and community outreach: educating The community about environmental benefits of and timely need for local Land conservation through seminars, publications, hands-on activities like The long island water education program in local schools and The o'neil conservation stewards summer internship program as well as numerous other conservation-oriented programs.
Land conservation: partnering with government, The community, and other non-profit organizations to raise funds to acquire Land, create parks and establish community gardens. In 2022, The Land Alliance updated its community conservation plan identifying more than 8,500 acres of conservation worthy lands in our designated area with a goal of advancing more private conservation efforts.
Stewardship: on an ongoing basis, The Land Alliance advises landowners about private conservation methods, as well as enforcing conservation easements on 27 private and public properties totaling 184 acres of Land and providing stewardship services for an additional 400 acres of managed Land, of which 268 acres are fee-owned.
