Program areas at Northeast Washington Wolf-Cattle Collaborative
The organization contracted with 26 riders, on horseback and/or all-terrain vehicles, to find and watch cattle, and observe and document wolf activity on Colville National Forest grazing allotments and adjacent private grazing areas. The riding occurred on approximately 150K - 200K acres of national forest grazing allotments and many more acres of private grazing areas. Riders worked in teams using GPS units that give them location information, record/track riding effort, and, if necessary, send emergency satellite messages to the administrator and other members of the board of directors to ask for assistance. Riding occured from early May through October, but can occur into early November. The program is funded by Washington Department of Agriculture Grants. The Northeast Washington Wolf-Cattle Collaborative invoices for riders as frequently as possible, usually every two weeks, and pays riders when the Washington Department of Agriculture reimburses the organization. A more detailed description of the Northeast Washington Wolf-Cattle Collaborative effort is described in Schedule O.
