Program areas at Northwest African American Museum
EXHIBITS/ADMISSIONS: NAAM SERVES THE PUBLIC AS A LEARNING INSTITUTION OF AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURE AND CONNECTION. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC IN 2022 THE PHYSICAL MUSEUM WAS CLOSED AND THERE WERE NO EXHIBITS. THE MUSEUM OPENED AGAIN JANUARY 16, 2023. CURRENT EXHIBITS ARE 'FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION', 'POSITIVE FREQUENCIES', 'JACOB LAWRENCE and 'OREGON BLACK PIONEERS'.
Public programming: naam engaged in a variety of virtual and offsite educational programs in 2023 including: annual king day, unity benefit, james baldwin circle, descendant series, juneteenth, malcolm x day, freedom weekend, elders circle, mlk60, knowledge is power book giveaway, interactive story time, youth curator program, grandparents day, sounders day at naam, ayana mathis book launch, dr blair kelly on 'the roots of black working class', late nites and bites, black history movie month, vinyasa yoga class, let's talk with vincent keele, book talk with clint smith, artist talk shantell jackson, artist yeggy michael, community health and resource fair, the African amereican jewish civil rights alliance event.
