Program areas at Northwest Youth Corps
Youth Corps programs: features an outdoor camping and service learning program format for Youth ages 15 to 19. Youth Corps teams operate throughout Oregon, Washington, and northern California during the spring, summer, and fall seasons. Youth are assigned to nine member teams. Camping teams camp near each week's assigned service project and rendezvous each weekend with other teams for outdoor recreation adventures. Non-residential teams serve m-f on conservation service project within their local community. Both program formats focus on community, challenge, leadership. Empowerment, and education.
Conservation interns program: provides para professional training, mentoring, and workforce experience to young adult participants seeking to gain entry into the conservation, resource management, and related fields. Participants are individually recruited and placed in limited duration, para-professional positions for periods of 8 weeks to 52 weeks, depending on the assignment. Interns earn a living allowance while gaining workforce training, which includes; professional mentorship, skills development, evaluation, and hands-on learning. Interns are typically placed with municipal, state, or federal agencies that have land or water management responsibilities.
