Program areas at Northwoods Battered Women's Shelter
The Northwoods Battered Women's Shelter (nbws) has been in operation since 1978. It is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Our services include Shelter for up to 12 residents at a time, a hotel program for short-term safe housing, and 24-hour crisis intervention call services. An advocate is always on duty, and is available to help victims, and their families, with issues and concerns regarding housing, finances, education, health, transportation, and many others, as requested by the participant. In addition, a mental health professional is available at no cost to the participant through a referral process. In 2023, 38,247 emotional and support and safety services were provided, 603 were provided safe Shelter nights, and nbws did 2172 services through outreach and education services.
