Program areas at Oasis Legal Services
Oasis's LGBTQIA+ Asylum Program is the core of our work. In 2023, despite the continued delays in processing of asylum applications, Oasis screened over 300 LGBTQIA+ immigrants for asylum. We represented 177 new asylum seekers and continued legal representation for the more than 900 asylum seekers whose cases are currently pending. 6 clients were granted asylum. The remaining cases are still pending. Our case approval rate is 99%.
Our naturalization program focuses on helping lawful permanent residents become citizens so that they can become full participants in our communities. In 2023 Oasis represented 50 new clients in their citizenship applications. A total of 35 Oasis clients became naturalized citizens in 2023. The remaining cases are still pending. Our case approval rate is 99%.
Permanent residency is the next important step toward citizenship for those who win asylum. In 2023 Oasis assisted 71 new LGBTQ+ immigrants seeking Lawful Permanent Residency. A total of 189 Oasis clients were granted residency in 2023. The remaining cases are still pending. Our case approval rate is 99%.
