The Occupaws Guide Dog Association has acquired, raised, trained, and placed 76 guide dogs and 9 children's visual companion dogs since its inception. Currently, it has 47 puppies in training and 4 breeding females. The organization's mission is to place fully trained guide dogs of excellent health and temperament with visually impaired adults and children in Wisconsin and contiguous states at no charge. In 2022, the association placed seven adult guide dogs and provided review training to 41 teams that received demonstration dog visits. The organization is located in Madison, WI.

Program areas at Occupaws Guide Dog Association

Occupaws Guide Dog Association acquires, raises, trains, and places Guide dogs with visually impaired adults and children in Wisconsin and contiguous states. In 2023, we placed seven adult Guide dogs and provided review training to 48 teams that received dogs in previous years. We have an ongoing program at the new lisbon state correctional institution (a medium security men's prison) where we have inmates raise and train puppies, much like regular puppy raisers. We conduct weekly classes for the 20 inmates currently raising puppies for us. The program is called "pawsforward."
