Ocracoke Alive

Ocracoke Alive sponsored the Ocracoke festival providing the community with an event that includes musical performances and a variety of artisans and craftsmen who display their work. In addition, there were performanaces by story tellers and other artists. The festival is attended by people from across the us and is considered one of the best folk festivals nationally.

A latino festival brings people up from the outer banks as well as lots of people from Ocracoke area. The festival is used to get the latino population of the island engaged along with the rest of the population of the island. The festival has a mariachi band, food, a costume contest, and traditional dancing.

The deepwater theater provides an area as a homebase for our administrative functions as well as storage for programs. The space is also used for Ocracoke student programs as part of our outreach partnership with the school. Thespace is also used during the Ocracoke festival. To help the community and school, we also rented the deepwater theater at cost to the Ocracoke friends of the library during 2022 because the school and public library had been damaged by hurricane dorian and could not be used.

Ocracoke Alive partners with Ocracoke school for student programs like the Ocracoke school arts week as well as other student and adult programs throughout the year. In addition, the Ocracoke quilters meet at deepwater theater weekly to work on quilts that they donate to community non-profits as fundraisers for those organizations.
