In 2023, the Oil Region Alliance continued the rehabilitation of the historic william h scheide house with completion of fire, security and sprinklier systems, and completion of the basement rehabilitation project; continued the downs building project with the completion of the first floor retail renovations and central staircase; completed a structural analysis of the tarbell house; designed a rain garden and native pollinator project at the coal Oil johnny house; conducted a diversity study and began a cultural resources study of the Oil Region national heritage area; advertised extensively through print and digital campaigns; presented annual Oil Region Tourism awards; supported marketing and hospitality for multiple conferences and special events in the Oil Region; worked with a property owner to develop a new access on the allegheny river; continued to develop additional mileage on the east branch trail and erie to pittsburgh trail; continued management of the allegheny wild and scenic river pa water trail; continued work on an atv trail feasibility study; partnered with pa fish and boat commission to assume control of fisherman's cove for maintenance and upgrades; assessed targeted brownfields in Oil Region utilizing a 500,000 community-wide assessment grant from the environmental protection agency; joined the Oil city redevelopment authority in a joint venture to acquire a blighted hotel for demolition and new development; launched negotiations with pennwest university to receive the venango campus targeted for 2024 closure; housed the Oil city main street program including the arts Oil city revitalization effort; continued management of the arts floor of the Oil city civic center located in the historic national transit building with the goal of maintaining affordable studio space and a downtown artist hub.
