Program areas at Old Santa Fe Association
The Old Santa Fe Association engaged in a variety of history education, community service, and preservation advocacy activities during 2023: - adoption of historic cemetery (our lady of guadalupe cemetery). O organization of volunteer days for cleanup of neglected sites. O professional maintenance operation to show gravesites. O development of outreach program to locate descendants of individuals interred at cemetery. - park and historic locomotive adoption (at&sf 5030, salvador perez park) o maintenance of historic train exterior. O organization of volunteer events dedicated to cleanup around the train site. O education about Santa Fe's railroad history. - publication of free preservation newsletter. O development of articles on historical and preservation topics relevant to Santa Fe citizens, focusing on ongoing architectural preservation projects, spotlighting affordable housing efforts, and educating readers about importance of Santa Fe history. - engage in local history education through book club, film series, and guided tours o host free, quarterly book club on Santa Fe and new mexico history topics. O screen films on topics such as historic acequias (shared irrigation ditches), artist movement, and documentation of historic Santa Fe and northern new mexico. O provide guided tours to public on notable artist homes and history of Santa Fe art colony in early 20th century. - participation in and public education regarding city's land development code update. - observation and advocacy at historic design review board and planning commission (quasi-judicial, unelected bodies) regarding land use and historic styles implementation in Santa Fe's historic districts and beyond. - public engagement and education through lecture on Santa Fe's railroading history.
