Olympia Symphony Orchestra enriches, educates and entertains its expanding audience by providing the highest quality live music. In the period between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023, it presented seven orchestral concerts, including a free outdoor summer concert that drew an impressive crowd. The orchestra also launched a young artists competition during this time to give young musicians the chance to perform as a soloist with the orchestra. Winners were selected in three categories: junior, senior and audience-choice.

Program areas at Olympia Symphony Orchestra

Between july 1 2022 and june 30 2023 the Olympia Symphony presented seven orchestral concerts, including one which was free to the public. This free outdoor summer concert featured a collaboration with 150 youth musicians from Olympia and seattle, and drew an audience of approximately 1,500. Guest artists from philadelphia, baltimore, and seattle performed with the Olympia Symphony's ensemble of 65 local professional musicians, under the leadership of music director alexandra arrieche. Concerts at the Washington center for the performing arts and kenneth j. minnaert center for the arts served a combined audience of almost 4,500, including a sold-out movie-music concert. Over 1,000 tickets were distributed free of charge to schools and service organizations. Numerous small ensembles visited retirement communities, community arts festivals, and fundraising events.
Between july 1 2022 and june 30 2023 the Olympia Symphony initiated a young artists competition, inviting youth musicians to audition for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Orchestra. Winners (junior, senior, and audience-choice) were selected from a pool of candidates ranging from seattle to san francisco ca, each receiving personal mentorship and instruction from music director alexandra arrieche. Area youth musicians also received free masterclasses taught by guest artists from philadelphia (david kim), baltimore (michael sheppard), and seattle (nathan chan). Season youth collaborations included a concert with marrowstone music festival, seattle youth Symphony Orchestra, and student orchestras of greater Olympia (sogo), as well as a community "conduct us" event with sogo.
