Program areas at On the Margins
Provision of youth programming:on the Margins, Inc. (otm) has successfully implemented four youth programs to historically ignored and under-resourced communities. These four youth programs are offered in partnership with On the Margins, llc and have different emphasis areas. Rise focuses On career counseling; healing justice On culturally responsible practices and ancestral healing; ser On intergenerational healing; and dale! On leadership, community organizing, and educational justice. In 2023, over 150 youth participated in our four programs. We received $280,250 in grants from three different foundations/funds to support our youth programs.through the support of third-party evaluators (i.e., underwood strategic insight and yk stats and consulting), we continually assess the strengths, needs, and gaps of each of our programs to meet recipient needs. If needs are identified, adjustments are made by our team. We measure performance several times a year (pre-program, mid survey, post program evaluations) to improve our programs and organization.based On our 2023 current program evaluation reports, our programs have a significant positive impact in youth. Below, we include data from our largest youth program, dale! Dale! Students have said the following: "dale has changed my perspective On how i can achieve more in my community and i am encouraged to make more changes in my school, and "i would describe dale! As life changing, i just didn't know my potential and now finishing, i feel like i have learned i have my own strength. "qualitative data is further supported by quantitative data that indicates a 51% increase in younger participants' understanding of the community organizing process, and 92% of participants showing improvement in various skills including community organizing, time management, interpersonal communication, and public speaking. This same evaluation indicated that 100% of all lgbtqia2+ participants felt like they belonged at dale!, suggesting that dale! Provides not just a space for personal and social growth, but also a space for belonging and acceptance.
Provision of clinical services:in 2023 our organization offered 1845 mental health sessions (i.e., individual, couples, family, group counseling or coaching), the majority of which were at no cost or sliding scale-based. These sessions were offered in partnership with On the Margins, llc. Otm offered a variety of clinical services for children, adolescents, adults, families, and groups. We specifically worked with populations that were impacted by the interplay of structural, socioeconomic, legal, psychological, and disaster-related adversities.on the Margins, by design, does not have one constrained physical location. Instead, we directly supported marginalized communities by coming to their community to provide no-cost or low cost mental health support and programming. This approach allowed us to advance equity in behavioral health care and facilitate support to foster healing for racial, ethnic and sexual, gender minority populations and communities.
Provision of clinical training:in 2023, we had over 500 participants sign up for otm's in person diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging workshops, and over 700 signed up for virtual wellness workshops through our nepantlah program. the nepantlah program provides culturally responsive and joyous professional development opportunities On the topics of health, healing, and deiba (i.e., diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and access). These professional development opportunities center low income, bipoc (black, indigenous, and other communities of color), and/or lgbtqia2+ health professionals, culture workers, and artists. the nepantlah program received $97,680 from the healthcare foundation of northern sonoma county to continue supporting the expansion of a bilingual and multicultural health professional pipeline to close the accessibility gap in mental health services for spanish-speaking latine populations. One accomplishment from the nepantlah program is that we have cultivated a network where bipocidentified health and healing practitioners shared knowledge, deepened skills, and nurtured connections.another significant accomplishment is that in 2023, we hired, onboarded, trained, and supervised two bilingual and bicultural therapists in training. Our training used a traumainformed, bilingual/bi-cultural, and anti-oppressive lens. Another, significant accomplishment is that we became approved providers by the California association of marriage and family therapists to sponsor continuing education for mental health practitioners.
