Program areas at One Colorado
During 2023, One Colorado (oc) advocated for policy priorities, including 15 bills that passed the Colorado state legislature. These included: the "safe access to protected health care" bill package: sb23-188 - protections for accessing reproductive health care: protects patients, providers, and assisters of politically targeted health care services including abortion and gender-affirming care from interstate criminal and civil threats. Sb23-189 - increasing access to reproductive health care: closed access gaps related to sexually transmitted infections and abortion care. Helps alleviate some of the damage the braidwood decision has caused and ensures people maintain care. Sb23-190 - deceptive trade practice pregnancy-related service: prohibits the use of deceptive advertising by anti-abortion centers and prohibits them from offering dangerous and deceptive treatments. A nationwide- first at reigning in anti-abortion centers' disinformation. Hb23-1057 - amenities for all genders in public restrooms: increases access to non-gendered restrooms and diaper changing stations in publicly owned buildings. Sb23-170 - extreme risk protection orders: expands the list of eligible petitioners for an extreme risk protection order to include district attorneys, educators, health care providers and mental health professionals. In response to the devastating attack on members of the lgbtq+ community at club q in november of 2022, One Colorado engaged in stakeholding efforts during the 2023 legislation session relating to firearm access and safety. This resulted in oc's support of sb23-170, expanding extreme risk protection orders, a piece of legislation that would prevent many extremists from having access to firearms that have later been used in horrendous attacks on our vulnerable communities. One Colorado worked with stakeholders and community members to defeat a harmful bill targeting transgender and gender-expansive athletes, "women's rights in athletics" (hb23-1098) which would have prevented transgender athletes from participating in youth sports. One Colorado's hosted their annual lobby day where coloradans from across the state lobbied their elected officials to advance lived and legal protections for lgbtq+ coloradans and their families. There were more than 100 attendees. Oc staff and board finalized the strategic plan which was introduced in 2022 and began implementing the goals and objectives of the strategic plan in 2023. Published the 2023 oc legislative report oc finished a rebranding process and launched a new website.
