Growing Food & Building Economies and Women's Rights: The Project " Tseltal Women strengthen the harmony and good living of their families" works with 150 Tseltal women, from 15 communities to reduce inequality between Indigenous women and men and increase the wellbeing of their families. They produce diverse and nutritious food, earn money selling crop surpluses in local markets, and through project activities, they also improve their self-esteem, increase awareness of gender equity, and participate more actively in making decisions in their communities. Project implemented by the Centro de Formación Integral para Promotores Indígenas (CEFIPI). The project " Kuxlejaltik, Tsotsil families work to achieve Food Sovereignty" works with 40 Tsotsil families in Tojtic and Oxinam, two communities from the poorest region in Chiapas, to improve their health and basic living conditions, towards food autonomy and development. Families access to water from the community reservoir. Women learn to produce diverse food in their vegetable gardens, raise chickens, and learn how to prepare more nutritious food. Families reduce gastrointestinal and respiratory diseases caused by smoke inhalation and shortages of healthy water. Project implemented by Centro de investigación y Servicios Profesionales (CISERP).
Securing Water and Sanitation for Children and Families: The project "Secure Water for Children and Adolescents in Rural Schools in the Chiapas Highlands" works with 5700 students in 29 schools to reduce health problems and gain their full physical and cognitive development through the implementation of the Safe Water Program. The principals, teachers, parents, and students build rainwater catchment and purification systems to get secure water in each classroom. Then, they renovate and put to use sanitation systems and bathrooms. Students learn to drink more water and to have hygiene practices. Project implemented by Fundación Cántaro Azul.
Strengthening Language & Culture: The project "Radio Ach Lequilc'op, bringing cultures together through the appropriation of community radio" seeks women, youth, children, and members of the indigenous communities of the region appropriate and participate in the radio, using it as an educational, informative and awareness platform that contributes to a life in harmony. The radio strengthens and expands its programs for new audiences. Women lead their space on the radio and develop independently their programs. Young people and children strengthen their connection with their culture, families, and communities through radio. Project implemented by Centro de Apoyo Educativo para la Comunidad A.C (CAEC). The Project "Xkuxesel jluchetik" (Bringing our designs back to life) seeks to strengthen the Jolom Mayaetik embroiderers and weavers cooperative, made up of 260 women organized into 13 groups from 5 municipalities in the highlands of Chiapas, to continue its path of development and consolidation. Through the project, old designs at risk of being lost will be recovered, and the meanings of the recovered designs will be identified contributing to preserving the identity of the indigenous communities. Project implemented by Jolom Mayaetik.
Environmental Conservation: The project "Go Birding" seeks to awaken the appreciation and conservation of nature in children from rural communities through learning about birds and their habitats. The direct beneficiaries are 72 indigenous children from rural families in the Yucatan peninsula guided by 12 young people volunteers. The results of the project are: to motivate attitudes and practices of conservation and appreciation of birds and their habitat; awaken sensitivity and empathy towards birds; and develop knowledge about birds and their importance to people and ecosystems. Project implemented by Transformation, Art, and Education (TAE).
