Program areas at One Fair Wage
Policy Shift Worker Organizing In 2023, we helped to launch policy campaigns in 2023 in CT, MD, MA, IL, CO, RI, PR, HI, CA, ID, OH, and AZ. We hired organizers in many of these states to conduct surveys and outreach to restaurant workers, develop their leadership, and help them tell and share their stories. MA Initiative In Massachusetts, the subminimum wage for tipped workers is still just 6.75/hr as of January 2023. Ending this low-wage carve-out positively impacts an overall restaurant workforce of nearly 240,000 Massachusetts workers. In the Bay State, we are advancing One Fair Wage on Beacon Hill with State Senator Patricia Jehlen sponsoring S1213 and State Representative Tricia Farley-Bouvier sponsoring the House version of the bill H1971. Next250 In February 2022, we launched the 25 by 250 campaign, in which we have created a plan to organize restaurants, services, and other low-wage workers to advance policy to raise wages and end subminimum wages in 25 states by the United States 250th Anniversary
RAISE High Road Restaurants In 2022, our high road employer engagement department, which conducts outreach to and engages restaurant owners who are committed to increased wages and equity, grew RAISE, our association of restaurant owners to over 2,500 restaurants an increase from 800 restaurants since 2019. The high road department also continued to grow the High Road Kitchens Program, a project of RAISE High Road Restaurants, to provide training, technical assistance, and in some instances, funding to hundreds of restaurants that committed to raise wages and increase equity for their Employees.
